Covid Update

There are a few interesting new Covid updates.

First of all the British variant has been detected in Southern California. In fact more so in SoCal than in other parts of the state, perhaps because of more testing for the variant in SoCal. You actually have to look for variants by doing gene sequencing, if you hope to find them.

In Britain this variant was first discovered in the southern part of Britain, and then spread throughout Britain with a lag time of just under four months until it is now wreaking havoc in Great Britain. This variant spreads about 50% faster and has an overall mortality of about 30% higher. In the U.S gene sequencing is happening only in < 1% of the tests . . . as compared to 100% genetic sequencing in Denmark. This variant could possibly portend a rise in both case numbers and mortality in the US in the near future.

Also in England a company has been doing randomized Covid testing since May. In mid-January of this year, the prevalence of infection was 1.57% which is not a decreasing prevalence since the latest lockdown in England. Again this is probably due to these new variants.

There are some interesting stats with this most recent randomized English data:

In London, 2.83% prevalence of Covid.

18-24 year olds, 2.44% prevalence.

Households with >6 people, 3.05% prevalence.

Blacks/Asians, 3.07% (? if related to lower Vit D levels?)

Whites, 1.14%.

Also a new interesting development from Brazil where a preliminary in vivo prospective study has demonstrated the beneficial effect of a mouthwash containing fatalocyanide blue. (no, I do not know what this is.)The mouthwash is both rinsed and gargled before being spit out, but this mouthwash is not available here. Could this beneficial Covid effect be carried over to other mouthwashes? The interesting thing about this is that in both Japan and Vietnam, gargling is apparently a part of their culture and both have had less mortality from Covid. In Vietnam using mouthwash has been suggested from the beginning and Vietnam has an impressively low mortality from Covid.

BTW: Scope is made by Procter & Gamble , and Listerine by Pfizer.

I find this of interest because one of retired Supreme Justice Anthony Keneally’s sons in “The Keneally Chronicles” used a special alcohol based mouthwash to avoid getting Covid during the street riots in LA ( see top of page 98 and bottom of page 102). Keep in mind that this book was written back in the Spring of 2020.

Yes, this book is still available on Amazon. (It hasn’t been taken down yet.)

Also there is now some new data out of Canada that one’s Vitamin D level correlates with one’s immune response to the Covid vaccine. . . a higher Vitamin D level correlating with a better immune response which is what we want. (FYI: Some of us are taking 4000 IU of Vitamin D daily.)
